Cape Cod, Massachusetts – Fern Engineering Inc., a worldwide engineering company that provides expert consulting services and products to the turbomachinery industry, announced today that Honeywell (NYSE:HON) Process Solutions has acquired the rights to its advanced PEGASYS™ performance monitoring software.
The software provides real-time performance evaluation of turbomachinery, such as gas and steam turbines, pumps and compressors, and will be integrated into Honeywell's Turbo Suite monitoring product.
"We are very proud of what we have accomplished with our PEGASYS™ software and we feel that Honeywell will now take it to the next level", observes Jeff Phillips, Fern Engineering's vice president and manager of software projects.
"We recognized several years ago that to reach its full potential, our performance monitoring software needed to be integrated with advanced data acquisition and decision support software, which is exactly what Honeywell has", he noted.
Honeywell selected Fern's software because they wanted their Turbo Suite application to perform beyond traditional turbo machinery performance and condition monitoring.
The rigorous gas turbine, compressor and pump modeling in Fern's software enables Turbo Suite to compare actual performance against expected performance and pinpoint sources of performance degradation, thereby enabling proactive maintenance.
Marc Duvall, Vice President/General Manager, Americas, Honeywell Process Solutions, stated that, "Fern's advanced PEGASYS™ software helps provide customers with an integrated performance monitoring and optimization solution that keeps their vital turbo machinery operating at peak efficiency."
Facilities throughout the world are striving to reduce soaring maintenance costs.
Turbo Suite helps reduce these costs with combustion diagnostics and life-usage monitoring that determines when maintenance must be performed.
Turbo Suite's flexible architecture supports data from a variety of sources, including Honeywell's Uniformance® PHD and OPC data sources.
It fully integrates with Alert Manager®, a component of Honeywell's Asset Manager® asset-health monitoring and decision support software.
Alert Manager diagnoses turbo machinery faults to help identify appropriate maintenance actions.
When the system detects a fault, Alert Manager automatically sends an e-mail or pager notification to the appropriate administrator or operator to initiate review and remedial action.
"This is exactly what our customers needed", Phillips observed.
"Customers need help understanding process and machinery data.
With Honeywell's Alert Manager, they now get easy-to-understand information they can use to make better maintenance and business decisions."
Fern's PEGASYS™ software was first developed in the 1980s under sponsorship from the Gas Research Institute and has been implemented on more than 150 machines on four continents.
Fern has agreed to provide technical support to Honeywell for the next two years as Honeywell's staff further develops the software.
