The following partial list, generated from the Fern Engineering project files, represents examples of our turbine commissioning, performance testing, and optimization.
GAS TURBINE PLANT COMMISSIONING.
Fern Engineering conducted start-up and commissioning of Westinghouse W191G, GE MS5000 and GE MS3000 gas turbines in Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, and Qatar.
Scope of work included witnessing or supervising systems and instrumentation checkout, start-up procedures and gas turbine performance checkout.
Result: Gas turbine units were put on line quickly and safely with concurrence between owners and contractors.
GAS TURBINE PLANT EVALUATION.
Fern Engineering reviewed the performance and site conditions of a Curtiss-Wright MOD POD gas turbine/generator unit to determine the cause of performance deficiencies and recommend improvements.
Fern evaluated the site and equipment, and submitted a report detailing various power enhancement options.
Result: The report identified and defined the limitations of the client's equipment, enabling them to plan their future hardware needs accordingly.
SITE CONDITION PERFORMANCE TESTING.
Fern Engineering was contracted by a major pipeline to diagnose the reason for low performance of two GE MS3000 regenerative gas turbines that had just been overhauled.
Initially, the turbines were suspect, but when Fern analyzed the site data offline using Fern's PEGASYS™ performance monitoring software, the results showed recuperator leakage and serious compressor fouling to be the cause.
Result: The analysis pinpointed the cause of the problem, enabling the client to quickly and efficiently make repairs.
NEW INSTALLATION PERFORMANCE TESTING.
Fern Engineering was contracted by a major utility to confirm the guaranteed performance of six newly installed GE MS7000E dual fuel gas turbines.
Fern engineers and technicians prepared the test plan, collected data, evaluated the power and efficiency of the units, and compared the results with the OEM guarantee.
Result: The gas turbine performance was evaluated by an independent third party and compared to OEM guarantees, satisfying contractural requirements.
